The Jewers Family Homesteads

John and Mary Jewers were one of the first to settle Ecum Secum area. Down below is a map (1806) of the property they were granted. After finding the N.S. web site, it shows that the Jewers family were large property owners. Between John Sr, John Jr, George and James they had over 1500 acres. Sister Sarah who was married to Henry Pye had property also.
The 100 acres that George had was down the road aways.
John Sr had lot 2 (95 acres), lot 3 (303 acres) lot 5 (159 acres) lot 7 (38 acres) which was on the Guysborough side of the river
John Jr had lot 1 (500 acres) Halifax County side of the river
James had lot 4 (92 acres), lot 6 (28 acres) lot 8 (147 acres)which was on the Guysborough side of the river
The bridge (if there was one at that time), one side was on John Sr's property and the other side was on John Jr's property. The family owned all but 200 acres on both sides of the river, from the mouth of the river to north of the main road.
There is a Jewers Road, which is off the Shore Road, Halifax Side of the river.
There is a Jewers's Cove, over by Mitchell Bay.
John Sr also owned the first Island at the mouth of the river, which some family members was born there. There are birth records saying so.

My Father grew up at my Great grandfather's (Alexander) in Harrigan Cove. The house was on Snow's Road were Alex, his brother Robert and their father William lived. They also owned 50 acres and William had 19 acres on Turner Island. You can find two of the properties on Map# 91.

I found a new map that shows all the roads with names from the Nova Scotia Government Electoral District Map.

Brian Nichols and his wife Cheryl of Halifax decided they wanted to have a summer place to go to. So they found this place down around Moser River. Brian looked into the history of the house and found that it was owned at one time by a Jewers family member. Brian and Cheryl will be fixing it up and decided to do up a web site to show everyone how the project is coming along. He has some pictures of the house and the property outside. So I decided it would be great to show you his web site and any other web sites that I find about Family Homesteads. If anyone has pictures of the Family Homes with histories, please be free to send them to me.
